Give Education for Rural Youth in the Highlands of Guatemala

Rolando and Adan are their community's heart and soul, driving efforts to create a brighter future for all. Their resilience and determination are deeply rooted in their experiences growing up in challenging circumstances.

With a vague memory of being taken to Mexico as a refugee during the late 70s, Rolando spent his childhood in the refugee camps of Chiapas. His family fled Guatemala due to the civil war and the army's targeting of the people of Todos Santos Cuchumatan. Despite the hardships he faced, Rolando's spirit remained unbroken. He grew up amid adversity, and his experiences shaped him into a leader who is now spearheading our construction project.

Similar changes marked Adan's journey. Born in the refugee camps in southern Mexico, his parents also hailed from Todos Santos Cuchumatan. Just like Rolando, he had to navigate a childhood far from home, working to survive without access to education. After the peace accords, they could return and settle in the northwestern lowlands of Guatemala, where their beloved community of Centro Uno was founded.

Rolando and Adan's leadership is wider than the current construction project. They have been instrumental in building their community since the time of resettlement. Their commitment to making their families safe and ensuring a prosperous environment for their children is deeply fueled by the memories of the civil war and their time as refugees.

As they lead the construction of these buildings, they draw upon their experiences, resilience, and determination to create a lasting impact. They've asked me to thank you for your valuable support on behalf of their community.
